Translation Studies Student Olga Popova at the University of Cadiz

Almost one year has already passed from that moment when I went to Spain, but I still remember everything so brightly and colorfully that it seems to have been yesterday. So, I am a student of Irkutsk State University, I study foreign languages at the Institute of Philology, Foreign Languages and Media Communication. I learn Spanish and English and I am going to be a translator and interpreter. Actually, I really like everything I do and everything I study, therefore I want to improve my skills, to expand my outlook and to develop myself. It is great that my Institute offers opportunities to do it! I went to Spain, to the University of one of the oldest European cities, to Cadiz by the student exchange program. I had been living and studying there for a half-year and I can say that this time was the best time of all my student life. Speaking about studying at the University of Cadiz, I want to tell about subjects you can choose and about some programs and courses I did. First, you have to do your study plan, in other words, you visit some classes that seem interesting for you and then you choose only three of them. In my case, these were Spanish Literature, Spanish of Latin America, and Theory and Methodology of Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language. However, obviously, you can choose everything you like; it can be connected with any language, with any sphere of Linguistics, Philology, and History etc. Moreover, the Russian-Spanish University Centre offers a lot of different and useful courses and programs, such as, for example, Expert of Russian-Spanish Special Translation. I was interested in this program as a future translator. I must say that it gave me a good knowledge that is why I would like to continue my studying by this program. Except the educational process, there are many extra-curricular activities where you can show you talents, have a nice time and acquire an invaluable experience. These are concerts, speaking clubs, conferences etc. And don’t forget that you are in a beautiful country with a very rich culture where you always can travel. I have visited a lot of different cities and towns of Andalusia, such as Seville, Granada, Cordoba etc. I have seen many typical Spanish holidays and traditions. Thanks to these six months of staying in Spain, I got a lot of professional experience and a deeper personal connection to this country and this language that I love now from the bottom of my heart.
